In a word YES. Take a look at this thread

It is possible to catch on floats but better to use a hair rig
This video shows how to make the easiest of rigs.

You can catch BIG carp on a float. Plummet the depth and fish so you have a BB shot on an inch from the hook making sure the weight is on the bottom. When a carp picks up the bait the shot moves up of the bottm and the float lifts up a bit out the water. This is when to strike as the carp has the bait in its mouth.
Not being funny but shouldnt this be in the tackle section?

sorry I thought using a float would have been a general question. Nearly all of my questions will probably be about bits of kit I will make sure I ask in the right section next time.

Checkbook and pen......again!!!!
Seen the pellet waggler for the first time on Fishing Gurus on sky sports when they had match v carp men. Steve Ringer was fishing it and so did his partner. Like a zig in a way but the opposite way round. Wouldnt mind have a go as have fished the bagging waggler before but same could be done on a zig spraying over the top of it.

You wouldnt be able to spray over top of it if you fished the zig at distance though cause catapult wouldnt get the pellets there. Good idea for commercials in the warmer months this i think. Wouldnt mind trying it at Drayton bet it would destroy it and haul them out with the amount of carp in there. <!-- s:idea: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_idea.gif" alt="
