Stanwick Lakes

Thought would get a thread going on the place as it has been recommended to me and i see that Jack and Matt are heading there today.
Any tactics and tips here please.

I take it he bagged a few then? Which lake did you fish?

Stanwick lakes is a complex of 6 lakes, one (roman) is a syndicate lake and the waiting list is massive and yet Ive never seen any more than two guys fishing it. There is a specimen lake that has to be booked by phone albeit it is a day ticket lake (Elsons) it is deep, clear and weedy. Then there are four other dayticket lakes (mallard) the one we fished is the largest of the four and has a variety of fish in it but the carp are mostly in the 5 - 10lb bracket with a hundred or so in the 10- 20lb bracket. The next in size is (Swan) which is supposed to be an easy water, however when there are lots of anglers on it then it isnt easy. Then there is the (car park) lake which is more of a dads and lads silver fish match type lake and finally the smallest lake (coot) has some cracking tench and roach in it but Ive never seen anyone fish it.

Cost for one rod is £5 for a day dawn to dusk and £7 for two rods. The complex is very well run and looked after. The car park down by Mallard and Swan is a trifle muddy at the moment.

Mallard and swan can get crammed at the weekends but are virtually empty during the week.

Tactics for Mallard:
Matts top tip= small bright baits and pva bags of pellet.
Jacks top tip=snowman rigs

Seems a vast choice of lakes to try on the complex going to have to have a visit and a little look round soon.

out of Elsons yes but it might take a few trips the fish in there are cute and the water is clear and its weedy. Mallard you will have to catch a few of the smaller ones in between the larger jobs, jack was fortunate to get a 15. 4oz for his first ever carp lol

Elsons the lake for me then. If you have only ever seen 2 people on Roman lake then thats a good thing. and a bit more, Ive been on it since 2004 and im no where near the top yet. I think I will need to get out and kill a few members off in the night time lol
