2 rods or 3? was created by bencarp16
Some waters allow more than 3 rods so just a random question how many rods do members use?
Also have you got 2 licences for them?

Good question Ben.

I only ever use two rods, I tried three once but just never got my head round it, to be honest it took me ages to get my head round using two. I can just about manage two and find I can steer a fish over/under and around the other one when im playing a fish. If there was a third rod in the mix then it would be like knitting.

besides ive only got one licence which covers me for two rods. There are an awful lot of anglers out there who only have one licence and use three rods which is just as bad as not having a licence and fishing in the first place.

Tried 3 rods once and didnt really know what to do with my 3rd rod. Used it as a roving rod until i found the carp using small pva bag and trimmed down boilies. Couldnt really handle the playing of the carp to keep it away from my other 2 rods. Also have had a double take a few times over the years using 2 rods and just about coped. Imagine 3 rods and 3 runs at the smae time, just dont have enough arms.

Checkbook and pen......again!!!!

Think i would be the same, wont get y head round using 3 rods. And buying 2 licences With the cost of 1 i cant afford 2. Would only use 2 myself as i fish mainly Drayton i dont need 3 rods it would be mental.

I would imagine Drayton with two rods would be fairly mental I stopped off there one evening last week on my way back from some agency work I got in Dav and there was a chap fishing with one rod (match stylee) using a large float and constantly catapaulting pellets out, even when he had a bite and a fish on the line he would stop every minute or so jam his rod under his bum and fire out half a dozen pellets. He would do this about four or five times during the playing of the carp. Once in the net he very quickly unhooked it, weighed it (still in the net) and returned it in less than a minute. I stood on the dam wall drinking a mug of coffee and in the time I spent there he landed no less than 7 carp.

Only ever fished a 2 rod set up myself, but it all depends on the waters you fish at the end of the day. The syndicate water i was on last year ( 90 acres ) i would of prefered a 3rd rod because then you can always have a gamble rod. Put two that you concentrate on with big baited area(s) and fish them like that then you can have that 3rd rod that might pull up something when noting else is doing. You can sling it in the margins or try something different on it. Gives you room to experiment while still knowing you have 2 rods fishing well and known tactics / baits.

Another thing i hadnt thought of until now was room. Alot of places there just isnt the room on your peg to fish 3 rods.

2 rods everytime. easier to concentrate on 2 imo. never tried 3 rods but think i would struggle. fish 1 rod on a baited spot and 1 either close by it or in the margins
